What We Believe
As a congregational church we believe strongly in the priesthood
of all believers. We would like to encourage all of our members
to discover their unique gifts and calling for use either in this
local body or in the larger body of Christ. Our statement of faith
reflects our deep commitment to the Word of God, while our Covenant
ties us together.
As a congregational church, we are soley responsible for the ongoing
business of this local body of believers. At our annual meeting
in February, we approve the annual budget and elect members to take
part in various commitee work for the day-to-day business of the
church. Our church by-laws spell out the details of what each committee
does. What follows is a quick overview of each committee's responsibilities.
Cabinet..............................................................
The Cabinet is made up of all the church officers and the chairperson
of each of the committees. They meet monthly to discuss ongoing
business and to plan and coordinate future activities.
Officers..............................................................

Responsible for preaching, teaching, guiding in worship, and leading
the congregation.
Church School Superintendent --
This person is responsible for the day-to-day running of the church
school.
Financial Secretary --
Collects all incoming monies, recording them in the appropriate
accounts.
Treasurer --
Disperses the funds as directed through the budget.
Moderator --

the monthly Cabinet meetings.
Auditor --

Committees......................................................
Diaconate --
The deacons are responsible for assisting the pastor in the spiritual
nurture and caring ministries of the congregation.
Prudential Committee --
The Prudential Committee is responsible for overseeing the financial
assets of the church. This includes ongoing maintenance, budgets,
and maintaining our funds in a "prudent" manner.
Missions Committee --
The Missions Committee will continue to raise the awareness of the
congregation of the spiritual and physical needs of those outside
our church. This includes local programs, such as the Haven from
Hunger, or international ministries, such as the Bernard family,
our missionaries to Central and South America. They are also generally
asked to disperse the missions money allocated at the annual meeting
to various missions endeavors. Learn more about Mission's at South
Church. See the links page for some of the organizations we support.
Music Committee --
The Music Commitee is responsible for hiring and providing for the
needs of the music staff, the musical instruments, and sheet music,
as well as overseeing the needs of the adult and children's choir.
Pastoral Relations Committee --
This committee meets with the pastor numerous times throughout the
year for the purpose of acting as a bridge between the congregation
and the pastor. From time to time, a parishoner may have a concern
which he or she prefers not to express directly to the pastor, or
the pastor may be undergoing a situation for which he needs a little
input. All committee business is strictly confidential.
Christian Education Committee --
This committee oversees the church school program, youth ministries,
and general educational offerings to the church. |
